IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DOG!
What do I want to be when I grow up?
Initially, when asked that question, I wasn’t sure how to answer it. All I knew was that I wanted a career that would let me spend more time with my dog, Kora. Before we adopted her, I had never owned a pet (goldfish don’t count). My husband spent two years persuading me to get a dog and then when we found Kora it was love at first sight. Kora is our beautiful husky with quite the personality. From her striking ice blue eyes to her welcome-home wags and kisses of adoration, I could not help but love that silly pupper mess!
When I decided to change my career focus to allow more time for Kora, I had quite a few options to choose from. In college, I studied music and psychology, but my professional experience was focused on in-home care, banking, and property management. My personal interests range from baking and cooking to crocheting and photography. With so many potential paths, it was challenging to choose a profession that would take advantage of what I knew and what I loved.
While I was mulling it over, the name “Puddles” came to me. Just the name itself inspired me to try starting my own business. I set out to create something I’d often failed to find for Kora: creative and healthy dog treats.
From the start, Kora has been our lead taste tester. Luckily, she is a critical husky, especially when it comes to treats. Kora generally isn’t treat motivated, so the few treats she begs for are the ones she really loves—and she has no problem telling me when she doesn’t like a treat! Taking her frequent tail wags and the occasional upturned nose as feedback, we created Puddles’ first four treats: Bakin’ Bites, Milo & Oats, Mini Pupcakes, and Cannoli.
I can now proudly say I am doing what I wanted to do when I grew up: I’m the head chef and owner of my own dog bakery. At its start, Puddles was all about my dog. Now, it’s about bringing the same love to yours, in the form of tasty, nutritious dog treats. Each recipe is tested and approved by Kora, and all the ingredients are ones you’d find in your own pantry. Because here at Puddles, it’s all about the dog.
